Our client, Tawid, had a specific requirement to develop an advanced airline refund management system that would efficiently handle flight cancellations, delays, and overbooking cases. They wanted a comprehensive solution that could streamline the refund process, facilitate communication between administrators, lawyers, and passengers, and ensure compliance with industry regulations.

Project Challenges And Their Quick Fix

Scalability and Performance

Developing a system capable of handling a large volume of refund requests simultaneously, while maintaining high performance and responsiveness. We implemented a scalable microservices architecture using Docker containers and Kubernetes orchestration. This allowed us to independently scale individual components based on demand, while leveraging load balancers like AWS Application Load Balancer to distribute traffic efficiently.

Data Security and Encryption

Ensuring the security and confidentiality of sensitive passenger data, including personal information and payment details.We implemented end-to-end encryption using SSL/TLS protocols to secure data in transit. Data at rest was encrypted using AES-256 encryption algorithms. Additionally, we employed techniques such as hashing and salting passwords stored in the database to protect user credentials.

Rule-based Refund Calculation:

Designing an intelligent algorithm to calculate refund amounts accurately based on complex fare conditions, airline policies, and regulatory guidelines. We developed a rule-based engine utilizing decision tree algorithms like C4.5. The engine considered various factors such as fare class, ticket type, cancellation reason, and regulatory provisions to accurately determine refund amounts. Regular updates to the engine ensured compliance with evolving airline policies.

Design Layout

The design layout of Tawid focused on providing a user-friendly and intuitive interface. We emphasized simplicity, clear information display, and ease of navigation to ensure a seamless user experience. The interface facilitated efficient communication between administrators, lawyers, and passengers, enabling easy tracking of refund cases.
